Golden Hawks Football Achieve #6 National Ranking After Dominant Week 1 Performance

After an inspiring performance in Week 1, the Golden Hawks football team has made a roaring comeback in the national rankings, securing 6th place in a triumphant Week 1 performance. This achievement serves as their highest ranking since 2018, a testament to the team’s perseverance and commitment. 

The Golden Hawks had a strong start to the season with some standout performances. Their first matchup was on the road against Queen’s University, and they won with a thrilling score of 11-10. The stunning win demonstrated the team’s tenacity and served as the starting point for an exciting season.  

The game began with the Golden Hawks taking a 3-0 lead after the first field goal of the season from Dawson Hodge. Taylor Elgersma contributed to the win as the driving offensive force for Laurier in the second half of the game.  

One standout player from this victory was Ethan Bayfield, who earned the well-deserved title of the OUA Football Player of the Week, leading the Hawks to victory with a fourth quarter slide just outside the endzone. The team’s outstanding performance was instrumental in securing the team’s success and undoubtedly a sign of great things to come.
