Valentine’s Day style guide

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. It might be corny, but I love this holiday.

The colours of pink and red, chocolates, flowers, and the fact that it’s my birthday make it a fun day to celebrate.

Whether you’re single or attached, going somewhere fancy with your beau or hanging out with friends, there’s no reason why you can’t make this day special and stylish. I’ve decided to round up totally cute, colourful outfits that are perfect for any occasion on Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is about going girly. Have fun with your outfit by wearing pinks and reds to get into the spirit. If your plans involve you getting dressed up, I suggest wearing a cute girly dress like this one from TopShop ($55). The chiffon fabric and the strapless sweetheart neckline make it sexy, and the blush pink colour is perfect for the occasion. Of course, an outfit is always incomplete without accessories. A necklace would ruin the look of the sweetheart neckline, so instead, pair it with either a gold bracelet, or a blinged-out diamond one.

For something more causal, I suggest choosing one dressy staple piece, and pairing it with a pair of jeans or a really cute top. My favorite pick is this hot pink blazer from Forever 21 ($33.80). The colour of it is gorgeous, and you can wear it with dark jeans, or even a skirt. If you’re feeling daring, try a red pair of denim jeans, like these ones from Forever 21 ($29.80). To make this look dressy enough for a restaurant, pair them with a white pussy bow blouse. This girly top paired with red edgy jeans will give you the most fabulous outfit. As for accessories, nothing can top-off an outfit like a statement cocktail ring.

If your Valentine’s Day plans don’t involve a fancy night out, there’s no reason why you still can’t be in the festive mood. I’m obsessed with these glitter heart tops by Wildfox Couture ($108). Pairing this with a pair of jeans, or even leggings is perfect if you’re planning on hanging out with your friends, or going to the movies.

For guys, choose an outfit that is stylish enough but not too dressy. For an evening date, wearing dark wash denim jeans is probably your best choice because you can pair them with any top to get a dressy look. I suggest wearing a dress shirt like this red one from H&M ($34.95) or because I’m a sucker for a guy in a cardigan, try a chunky knit sweater like these from Forever 21 ($31.99). Another option is a simple cotton cardigan like this red one from Forever 21 ($8.99), paired with a plain v-neck t-shirt. To make your outfit dressier, pair your outfit with a blazer and a nice pair of shoes.
