The second segment of a three-part video series, “Starter workout moves” features participants learning basic exercises with personal trainers at the Laurier Athletic Complex.
1) Squats
Keep your weight back on heels
Keep your chest upright
Make sure the bar is on shoulder blades, not neck
2) Deadlift
Keep your weight back on heels
Keep your chest upright
Keep the bar as close to body as possible
3) Bench press
Line the bar up above eyes
Keep your shoulders back
Make sure to have a spotter
4) Bicep Curl
Keep elbows tight to the body
Don’t lean back, and don’t use your shoulders to help with the lift
5) Tricep Pushdown
Keep your shoulders back
Keep elbows tight to body
Push down until arms are extended and squeeze back of triceps at bottom of exercise
