Bold Colours

This year, spring runways were more colourful than a rainbow. Spring’s colour story is this: go bold, bright and make your selections somewhat unexpected. Come spring you’ll be welcoming all kinds of colour in exchange for the dulled greys of winter. Have fun with vibrant colour combos – electric tangerines, lemon yellows, neon greens and cobalt blues. The pick for spring’s number one shade that was all over the runways was tangerine. If tangerine isn’t your citrus of choice, there are plenty more orange hues to choose from. Bold, solid-colour pieces make simple dressing look glam. My style tip: stick to three colours maximum to avoid looking like a rainbow.

Pastel Hues

If wild, look-at-me hues aren’t your thing, worry not, fashion week’s sweet sorbet shades and pastel hues give off a low-key, ladylike vibe. Designers loved all sherbet hues, but the colour that stood out the most was sea foam green. Because this colour is a soft shade, it’s surprisingly easy to wear and it’s a fresh alternative to white. When the warmer months roll around, you’ll be sure to see this colour everywhere.

Prints

There are no words to describe the vibrant, swirling, styled-head-to-toe patterns that were revealed down the spring 2012 runways. There were plenty to choose from — florals, geometric shapes and animal patterns. These lush prints had a wild time on the runway. Patterns in just about every colour combination and theme strolled down the runway, but it was lush, floral prints that ruled. Designers went all out and layered prints in head-to-toe looks. However, since this may be a little too matchy-matchy for most, just choose one printed piece and style it with neutral separates for a more toned down look.

The Little White Dress

Forget your LBD (little black dress), this season it’s all about the LWD (little white dress). This spring, white made a powerful statement in textured, flowing looks. Designers’ version of the little white dress is ultra feminine and chic, and will be a classic staple in your wardrobe. The little white dress is perfect for the warm days of spring and summer. Designers spiced up white with lace, sequins, studs, frills and bows. Little white dresses can make a great fashion statement. Choose a simple chic white dress for a warm lazy day and an edgy white dress for a party. The best thing about a little white dress is that it is a blank canvas for colourful accessories like jewelry, bags and shoes.
