Several hit in accident on King St

A car swerved off King St. and over the sidewalk, hitting people in line at the bar Phil’s Grandsons Place located south of University Ave. Witnesses at the scene said up to 10 people were injured, however police have yet to confirm details of the accident.

Emily, a Wilfrid Laurier University student, who chose not to disclose her last name, explained that the car — a grey Acura — was heading northbound on King St. at the time it lost control. The Acura had nearly collided with another car that was making a left turn into the parking lot by the bar. “The car coming [southbound] was about to turn in…. Instead of hitting this car, he swerved off onto the grass and into the full line at … Phil’s,” Emily said.

“A guy fell down and his legs were sort of under the car,” she added on the state of the victims in line.

The car driving southbound, reportedly a red coupe, left the scene and was last spotted heading southbound on Regina St.

Official reports from police will be available tomorrow. At the time of the incident, none of the injuries were said to be life threatening.

There is no confirmation that any of the injured people were students at either WLU, the University of Waterloo or Conestoga College.

The Waterloo Regional Police officers on the scene declined to comment.
