Laurier hosts technology forum

PRISM, Wilfrid Laurier’s student-run organization within the School of Business and Economics, hosted a technology forum at the Maureen Forrester recital hall on Wednesday to provide students a chance to take part in discussion and debate with industry leaders.

The panel consisted of Lubor Ptacek from Open Text, Shyam Sheth from Google, Trevor Dantas from Toshiba, and Rudi Loepp of IBM.

Discussions of evolving education and social media outlets due to technology were just a few amongst the topics covered by the panelists.

“Twitter gets an awful lot of press these days. I guess one of the problems that we’re having is figuring out whether or not the people who are responding are representative of real users of the product,” said Loepp when explaining the issues of these social outlets within a company.

When speaking about Laurier specifically, Sheth spoke about the university’s students as the future of the business world.

“I think that we have some really strong people here [at WLU] from a business and economic standpoint.”

“ I think there’s a huge amount of potential here,” he continued.
