Heap honoured by CIS

After he received the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) special teams player of the week award on Monday, Golden Hawks slot back Dillon Heap was named the top special teams player in country for this week on Wednesday.

Heap became the first Hawk to win a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) weekly award this season, being named special teams player of the week after his outstanding performance against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday.

The Waterloo native was instrumental in the Hawks’ 30-14 win over the Marauders, gaining 420 total yards, setting a Laurier single-game record with 179 yards on punt returns as well as 111 yards on kick returns.

Heap was also the Hawks’ leading receiver on the day with four receptions for 130 yards.

The third-year currently has 1036 all-purpose yards on the season, 261 receiving, 334 on kick returns and 441 on punt returns. His 334 kick return yards is already a new Laurier single-season record, and with his 441 punt return yards through just four games, Heap should challenge the CIS single-season record of 777.
