First-year Laurier student Yafiet Rezene passes away

Wilfrid Laurier University has confirmed the death of first-year student Yafiet Rezene, 19, who passed away following a shooting in Kitchener on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 15.

According to the statement released by Laurier, the dean of students will be contacting Rezene’s family and support will be provided to students who knew him.

This is the second Laurier student who has passed away in less than a week. The deaths are not connected.

“Losing a student at any time and under any circumstances has a significant impact on the entire Laurier community,” the statement said.

Additional support is available for students who need it and can be accessed through on-campus resources.
