The KW region hosts a wide variety of art spaces and galleries ranging from historical sites to contemporary art and diverse visual media from many emerging, local and international artists. For all the incoming students and art enthusiasts, here are some popular galleries to explore in the region:
Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (KWAG)
The KWAG is the oldest and largest public art gallery in the Waterloo Region, with a rich collection and a wide range of programs throughout the year. From multimedia exhibitions to hands-on workshops and community events, the gallery offers something for everyone. Located at 101 Queen Street North in the heart of Downtown Kitchener, KWAG houses a permanent collection of more than 400 works. Upcoming highlights include Autobiography: Vehicles of Identity, Community, and Globalization, which opened on September 19, 2025, along with creative workshops such as Danielion paper making.

Homer Watson House & Gallery
The Homer Watson House & Gallery preserves and celebrates the legacy of the renowned artist Homer Watson while also showcasing local art events and programs. Housed in the former residence and studio of Watson and his sister, the gallery embodies 116 years of art history. Located at 1754 Old Mill Road, it hosts a variety of exhibitions and events, including the Art Fair on September 13, 2025, as well as Tangible by Wen Li and Blue by the Connections Fibre Artists.

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery
Located in Uptown Waterloo, close to the University of Waterloo’s main campus, the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is dedicated to artworks in clay, glass, and enamel, honoring the memory of ceramic artist Ruth Gowdy McKinley. McKinley, known for her functional ware, was one of the founding members of Ceramists Canada. The gallery hosts a wide range of activities and exhibitions, including Beyond the Threshold, curated by Peter Flannery, Denis Longchamps, and Cheyenne Mapplebeck, which opened on September 20, 2025.

University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG)
Founded in 1974, the University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG) is located in East Campus Hall 1239, adjacent to the Fine Arts Department on Philip Street. UWAG presents a diverse program of exhibitions and events featuring emerging and mid-career Canadian and international artists. It also showcases the Fine Arts department’s annual fourth-year undergraduate exhibition and multiple MFA thesis exhibitions. Robert Langen Art Gallery (RLAG)
The Robert Langen Art Gallery, Wilfrid Laurier University’s in-house gallery and visual arts center, oversees art collections and policies across Laurier’s campuses. It organizes a variety of visual arts programming throughout the year and hosts engaging exhibitions such as Nîkânitisaham ᓃᑳᓂᑎᓴᐦᐊᒼ S/he Sends It Ahead by Metis artist Jason Baerg, which opened September 2, 2025.
