Fucked Up takes Polaris
Hardcore band Fucked Up was declared the winner of the 2009 Polaris Music Prize around 12:15 a.m. tonight.
With the victory, the musicians received a $20,000 cheque which frontman Damian Abraham explained they will use to create a benefit release to raise money for a charity dealing with the growing issue of missing Aboriginal women in Canada.
The announcement was made at the end of a gala at the Masonic Temple in Toronto. Each band – for the first time in Polaris history – was able to perform a short set at the gala.
