Women’s hockey improves to 9-0

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ women’s hockey team continued their perfect start to the season on Saturday, with a 3-0 win over the Waterloo Warriors.

The Hawks received goals from third-year Kaley Powers, second-year Abby Rainsberry and rookie Devon Skeats in the victory. Skeats’ second period goal marked the first in her Laurier career.

Hawks’ star goalie Liz Knox continued to look unbeatable, stopping all 22 of the Warriors’ shots for her league-leading fifth shut-out of the season. Knox has started all nine of the Hawks’ games this season and has only allowed six goals. She also leads the province in goals against average (0.66) and save percentage (.971) .

The 9-0 start puts the Hawks in first place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) standings and second in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national rankings, only trailing the powerhouse McGill Martlets.
