WLU men’s basketball squeaks into playoffs

The motivation was simple for both teams coming into the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball team’s game versus the Brock Badgers on Wednesday night. The winner would sneak into the playoffs, the loser would see their post-season aspirations die.

Despite a 40-point performance from Badgers’ rookie Clinton Springer-Williams, the Hawks came out on top 78-65, and clinched the final playoff spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) west division.

The Hawks were led by veterans Jesse MacDonald and Kale Harrison, who put up 18 and 16 points respectively, as well as second-year point guard Travis Berry, who posted a career-best 10 assists.

The purple and gold will conclude their regular season this Saturday against the Waterloo Warriors. The two teams are currently tied for the final two playoff spots in the OUA west, so the winner of this game will finish fifth and play the Western Mustangs in the quarter-finals, while the loser will place sixth and face off against the McMaster Marauders.
