Get Out: the poignant hit film shines a frightening light on racial bias
/
Watching the trailers for the now critically acclaimed film Get Out had me inexplicably hopeful. I had no clue what this film would deliver, but as an unabashed lover of horror movies with a twist, I was thoroughly impressed with both the execution of the movie genre itself, and the all-too-relevant meaning threaded throughout. This…

Jimmy Fallon and why he’s no longer funny
/
I used to be a person who eagerly watched Jimmy Fallon’s late night show with unending amusement. I found his sketches funny and thought that he was a talented comedian and entertainer. I’ve heard all of the criticisms and I do agree with them — to an extent. It alienates people who are not in relationships. It’s a glorified occasion that’s a flimsy…

The return of podcasts amidst a visual-driven entertainment frenzy
/
Differences between story-telling formats highlight pros and cons. While television, arguably the most popular method of modern entertainment, is an incredible invention that connects people by an intensely specific craft of art, it is a method that requires little engagement from its audience. By offering less, the radio format was able to influence people in…

The fantasy of gaming: escaping the modern world
/
One of my favourite sentimental items is my Playstation 2. I received it over twelve years ago for Christmas, having never touched a video game before that and it ended up becoming one of my main comforts and beloved hobbies. Whenever I look at it, it gives me a pleasant, warm feeling of nostalgia and…
