Second-year Laurier student dies in car accident

On March 19, Wilfrid Laurier University second-year political science student, Travis Michael Brown, died in a car accident.

The car accident happened on Robert Ferrie Drive at Reynolds Court in the Doon South neighbourhood in Kitchener. The crash also killed Jamie Martin, a 24-year old father. Another passenger, an unidentified 21-year old, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Sunday evening, the university published a statement which acknowledged the death of Brown.

Since then, floods of messages have been put on his Facebook in memory.

“Our heartfelt thoughts are with Travis’s family and friends,” said David McMurray, vice-president of student affairs. “Travis’s tragic death is felt deeply within the student and university community.”

Flags were also set at half-mast in honour of Brown.

“Travis and I went to high school together, and even though we were different grades and social circles he was always so kind to me and went out of his way to say hi,” said Kyle McCord via email, a fourth-year film studies student.

“He was so funny and stood out in a crowd with his laugh and humour. He was admired by faculty of our high school and everyone around him. He could make any room smile.”
