Quarterback Luke Thompson out with knee injury for extended period of time

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks menโ€™s football played their first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 29-18 victory over the Waterloo Warriors.

The win came at a price however, as quarterback Luke Thompson went down with a knee injury late in the second quarter. Thompson did not return to the sidelines during the game, and the extent of the injury is believed to be long-term.

With Thompson out, running back Mike Montoya picked up the slack on offence, tearing the Warriorsโ€™ defence apart, running for 204 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

The Hawks also received a rushing score from Thompson, as well as a 27-yard touchdown catch from rookie Alex Anthony who was making his first career start in place of the injured Josh Bishop.
