Laurier student Brittaney Nicholson passes away

Wilfrid Laurier University confirmed Monday morning that one of their students, Brittaney Nicholson, passed away tragically Saturday.

Nicholson, a third-year arts student on Laurier’s Waterloo campus, was 20-years old when she died.

Laurier released a statement Monday saying that support services are available to members of the university community impacted by the loss, including the Student Wellness Centre and the 24-hour crisis line, Here 24/7.

โ€œThe Laurier community offers our deepest condolences to Brittaneyโ€™s family and friends,โ€ said David McMurray, vice-president: student affairs in the statement. โ€œBrittaneyโ€™s tragic death is felt deeply within the student and university community.โ€

Nicholson’s family also wished to encourage those in need of help to reach out and seek support. Local assistance is available through theย Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast across the university in recognition of this loss.
