Laurier loses number one spot in student satisfaction for Canadian universities

The 2021 Maclean’s Magazine university rankings were released on Oct. 8, which ranks all universities across Canada in various categories related to postsecondary education and campus life.

While Wilfrid Laurier University saw increases in reputational rankings, they dropped to number 5 in comprehensive student satisfaction.

In 2019, Laurier was voted number one in student satisfaction for the fourth year in a row.

“While we were hopeful that we would retain our No. 1 position, there are always insights to be gained from rankings,” President Deborah MacLatchy said in an email statement sent to Laurier students.

“We will be reviewing all the Maclean’s rankings in detail in the coming days and will continue our conversations with students so we can work together to deliver the support and learning opportunities that will help you to develop during your university journey and beyond,” the email statement concluded.

Students have been engaging with and reacting to the release of the rankings on the Spotted at Laurier Twitter account and Laurier subreddit.
