Hocking elected board chair

The Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union board-elect met for the first time on Feb. 10, electing returning director Kyle Hocking as chair for the 2010-11 year.

Returning director Chris Oberle was also nominated for the position.

Both nominees presented their platforms and answered questions from the board-elect and gallery.

Hocking and Oberle agreed on the mentoring role of the chair and the importance of communication within the board and to management.

With 11 members of the incoming board being first time directors, training was a focus of much of the discussion.

“Good training leads to responsible governance,” said Hocking.

Outgoing chair Saad Aslam announced the results and allowed Hocking to chair the remainder of the meeting.

In addressing the incoming board, Hocking candidly stated, “Training is going to start very soon, I’m going to figure out how to do that.”
