Emergency board meeting over chair’s new VP position; director resigns

At 10 p.m. on Wednesday night the Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union board of directors held an emergency in camera board meeting to discuss the recent hire of board chair Saad Aslam as WLUSU vice-president of university affairs.

“Because I was hired as vice-president university affairs the board had to decide if they wanted to keep me around in my capacity as a director,” said Aslam.

“And they did choose to do so.”

Director Peter Hannah resigned during the meeting, stating that he decided to do so because of the “outcome of what happened in camera.”

“With that outcome I think we’re putting the corporation at risk really, and that’s my personal belief,” said Hanna.

Hanna also noted that he has been unable to attend meetings this semester because he is currently on co-op.

“I can barely come out to the meetings….With me not being there and this in place, if anything happens I don’t want to really have myself backing it,” said Hanna.

“I’m kind of frustrated but at the end of the day I think it was what was needed.”
