Hawks fall to Mustangs

/

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team suffered their first loss of the young season on Saturday afternoon in London, falling 30-7 to the Western Mustangs.

The Hawksโ€™ offence struggled all game, only mustering 208 yards and not scoring their only touchdown until the final minute of the game. Third-year quarterback, Luke Thompson, was unable to get in sync with his receivers, finishing 11-21 for just 70 yards and an interception.

โ€œI think we beat ourselves more than anything,โ€ said manager of football operations and head coach Gary Jeffries. โ€œWe had opportunities to make plays but we didnโ€™t. We said coming in that it was going to be a field position game and we played nearly the whole game in our own end.โ€
