Hawks fall to Mustangs

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks football team suffered their first loss of the young season on Saturday afternoon in London, falling 30-7 to the Western Mustangs.

The Hawks’ offence struggled all game, only mustering 208 yards and not scoring their only touchdown until the final minute of the game. Third-year quarterback, Luke Thompson, was unable to get in sync with his receivers, finishing 11-21 for just 70 yards and an interception.

“I think we beat ourselves more than anything,” said manager of football operations and head coach Gary Jeffries. “We had opportunities to make plays but we didn’t. We said coming in that it was going to be a field position game and we played nearly the whole game in our own end.”
