Basketball Hawks fall in OT

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s basketball saw their playoff chances take a blow on Saturday afternoon, as they took the number nine nationally ranked Windsor Lancers to over time, but fell 91-90.

Led by veteran Jesse MacDonald and rookie Max Allin -who put up 22 points each- the Hawks dominated the powerful Lancers’ squad in the first half, leading 42-30 at the break. However, Windsor came back, putting up 26 points in both the third and fourth quarters to send the game to over time with the score tied at 82.

In the over time period, the teams were dead even once again, with the Lancers sinking the game-winning basket with 20 seconds left.

The Hawks now turn their sights on a crucial match-up with the Brock Badgers on Wednesday night. The Badgers and Hawks are currently tied for the final playoff spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) west division.
