Offensive Weapon

Location: Off Campus (Near 345 King St. N.)

Reported: Monday September 07, 2015 at 01:15 am

S.C.S. responded to 345 King St. N., after receiving a report of a student having been shot by an air-soft BB pellet. The student and friends had been walking along the East sidewalk of King St.in the area of 345 King St when the victim was struck by a BB pellet on her collar bone. The origin of the shots could not be determined and there are no suspects. WRPS were notified.

S.C.S. responded to the student residence for a female student who had lost consciousness while moving into residence. Waterloo Regional EMS and Waterloo Fire Rescue were contacted to attend. The female was treated and released at the scene.

 

Theft Under $5000

Location: 21 Bricker Ave.

Reported: Tuesday September 08, 2015 at 03:30am

S.C.S. responded to Bricker Ave. after receiving a report of four males carrying a stolen sign. The suspects were located and identified as Laurier students. The sign was determined to belong to the Students Union and was being used for ongoing Orientation Week activities. The sign was returned and all four suspects will be sent before the Laurier Student Conduct Coordinator.

S.C.S. was notified by W.R.P.S. that a female Laurier student had sustained an eye injury while walking on King St. N. in the vicinity of 345 King St. N.  She had been struck in the face by a pellet from a pellet gun fired by an unknown suspect.  Safety alert messages were sent out by S.C.S. to the Laurier students via the S.C.S. Twitter feed and SAFEHawk phone application. Several hours later S.C.S. was notified by a student that she had laser beams pointed at her and her friends shortly after midnight coming from a high rise apartment on King St. N.  W.R.P.S. was notified and is investigating both incidents.

 

Suspicious Vehicle

Location:  200 King St. N.

S.C.S. received a complaint of a parked vehicle with a male occupant in the driver’s seat in the driveway in front of the student residence.  The male was seen rolling a marihuana cigarette and a ‘bong’ was visible in the open trunk.  The vehicle was gone upon the arrival of the attending officer.   A marker number was obtained and the vehicle particulars were passed onto W.R.P.S.

 

Graffiti

Location:  200 King St. N.

A S.C.S. officer on mobile patrol discovered some newly unreported graffiti on a cement retaining wall on the south side at the rear of the student residence. Person(s) unknown using black spray paint had written an illegible ‘tag’ on the wall. There are no CCTV cameras in this area and no suspects. A work order was sent to Physical Resources for removal.

 

Robbery

Location:  Seminary

A 20 year old male Laurier student was accosted by seven males unknown to him in the vicinity of the Seminary.  During the encounter his iphone was slapped out of his hand by one of the males who then fled on foot accompanied by his friends last seen walking south on Albert St.  CCTV camera footage to be reviewed in the area.  This incident will be turned over to W.R.P.S. for further investigation.

Suspect Descriptors:

Male, black, thin build, wearing a black New York Yankee cap, black t-shirt with a paisley bandana pattern and black vans shoes.

No descriptors provided for the other suspects.

S.C.S. received a call from a concerned parent that his daughter a 20-year-old Laurier student had just returned home from Grand River Hospital and believed that she may have been assaulted and possibly drugged the night before. It was determined that she had consumed a large quantity of alcohol that night at various locations on and off campus. She had no recollection how she ended up in the hospital. She had some bruising on her neck. The matter was turned over to W.R.P.S. Major Case.

A male Laurier student turned over to S.C.S. a small Ziploc bag containing a quantity of suspected crystal meth that he had found on the south sidewalk Seagram Drive in the vicinity of University Stadium. The drugs were taken to W.R.P.S. North division for destruction.

S.C.S. and E.M.S. attended to the rear of the Library on campus in response to a report of a male passed out.  He was identified as a U. of W. student.  He was intoxicated and unresponsive. He was treated by E.M.S. and transported to Grand River Hospital for further treatment. U. of W. Police were notified of the transport.

S.C.S. and W.R.P.S. officers attended to the student residence in response to a complaint of articles (rice filled balloons) being thrown out of a window from the 7th floor almost striking several pedestrians on the street below.  The attending officers located two males (Laurier students) that were found to be responsible.  The matter is being dealt with by W.R.P.S. and Residence Life staff.

 

Property Damage

Location:  345 King St. N. Waterloo

S.C.S. officers attended to the student residence in response to some property damage. A light fixture in the hallway on the 1st floor had been smashed. Two males, Laurier students were seen running away from the area. The matter is under investigation.

S.C.S. is investigating the possible theft of an iPhone reported by a male Laurier student from a lecture room in the academic building during the morning hours.  It went missing sometime while he was in attendance during a lecture. Attempts to locate and access the device through iCloud proved to be negative.

Unwanted Person

S.C.S. received a complaint about students being harassed by two males on the sports field.  The attending officers located two local males with no Laurier affiliation. They were both issued with Trespass Notices and sent on their way. No criminal offence had been committed.

S.C.S. officers and E.R.T. members attended to the stairwell on the south side of the A.C. in response to an intoxicated female. She was identified as a Laurier student. She was assessed by E.R.T. and did not require any medical attention. She was escorted back to her residence and left in the care of her roommate.

S.C.S. and E.M.S. attended to a stairwell on the 5th floor of the building in response to a report of an unconscious female.  It was determined that the female a Laurier student was not ill but had fallen asleep.  There were no medical issues.  The complaint was unfounded.

S.C.S. received information from a student that the tenants at a student housing complex, the Lux apartment building at 339 King St. N. recently were observed throwing glass bottles, eggs and other tangible items from out of the building onto the ground below.  W.R.P.S. was notified.

A female Laurier student contacted S.C.S. about a concern she had regarding an intimate sexual encounter she had with a male friend.  During their encounter he had taken nude photos and a video. At her request the explicit photos and video were deleted however she was concerned that they might surface again at a later date. The matter was referred to W.R.P.S. and she was offered support services available to her at Laurier.

A 20-year-old male Laurier student was issued a Provincial Offence Notice by a S.C.S. officer for the offence of urination pursuant to Waterloo’s Public Nuisance By-law.  The offence witnessed by the officer took place at the rear of the building that houses the offices of S.C.S.  He was issued with a copy of the P.O.N. and sent on his way.

A S.C.S. officer and one of the R.L.A.C.’s attended to the student residence in response to a complaint of suspected drug usage in one of the rooms. A patrolling Don had detected the smell of marihuana coming from the room.  Five 1st year male Laurier students were located and spoken to and admitted to having rolled a joint in the room and smoking it. There were no other drugs located in the room. The matter will be dealt with by Residence Life.

 

Pornography

A S.C.S. officer on foot patrol of the main campus in the hallway just beside Wilf’s Pub discovered a pornographic movie being played on the electronic screen that normally displays the Grand River Transit schedule.  Person(s) unknown using a keyboard and mouse connected to the hard drive of the screen had accessed a porno website and activated it onto the screen. The responsible person(s) were gone upon the arrival of the attending officer. The suspect responsible was captured on CCTV camera footage. Attempts will be made to have him identified and dealt with.

Suspect Descriptors: 

Male, East Indian, mid 20’s, 5’ 10”, 180 lbs. medium build, short black hair, clean shaven, wearing a grey/green long sleeve sweater, white t-shirt, blue jeans and black & white sneakers.

S.C.S. was notified via the SAFEHawk app by a female student about a possible gunshot from a pellet gun as she was walking past an apartment building at 300 Regina St. at approx. 12:30 pm. She heard the sound of laughter and yelling coming from the area. She did not hear anything resembling pellets striking the ground nearby. She was contacted by S.C.S. for particulars.  W.R.P.S. was notified of the incident.

 

Intoxicated Person

A S.C.S. officer in attendance at a football game encountered an intoxicated male Laurier student.  He was evicted from the game, verbally reprimanded and walked back to his residence by an ‘O’ Week volunteer.

S.C.S. officers attended to the student residence in response to suspected marihuana usage in one of the rooms. The attending officer did not locate any drugs or paraphernalia. Several occupants in the room admitted to having smoked some marihuana off the property. The matter will be dealt with by Residence Life.

 

Fraud

S.C.S. assisted a local taxi driver with a male fare at 44 Bricker Ave. (student residence) who had no monetary means to pay for the ride. He was identified as a 19-year-old Laurier student.  The outstanding fare was paid and the matter will be dealt with by Residence Life.

 

Intoxicated Person

S.C.S. encountered an intoxicated female student at University Stadium during a football game. Sober friends of the student were located and escorted her back to her residence building.

 

Unwanted Person

Location:  50 University Place

Reported: Sunday, September 13, 2015 @ 1:39 am

S.C.S. attended 50 University Place, a student residence in response to a complaint of an unwanted and confrontational person attempting to gain access to the building. The male suspect was located and identified as a non-student. After the residence no guest policy was explained, the male left the property without issue.

 

Drugs

Location:  C.H. Little House B-Wing

Reported: Sunday, September 13, 2015 @ 9:10 pm

S.C.S. attended Little House B – a Laurier student residence – in response to a report of a student who found some marijuana in his sock. The student, who believed the items belonged to his roommates, wished to have an officer attend to dispose of the illegal drugs. S.C.S. attended and seized a vaporizer and 0.74 grams of marihuana which was catalogued and taken to W.R.P.S for destruction. This incident will be addressed through Residence Life’s policies and procedures.
