Arrests made in Campus Court fire

Waterloo Regional Police has arrested two people in connection with the fire that destroyed nearly half of University Avenue’s Campus Court plaza last April.

According to CTV news, Kitchener native Daniel Campbell and Lyntje Zinger of Hawkesville were arrested on Tuesday after the investigation by the Ontario Marshal’s Office and the Waterloo Regional Police Service revealed that the fire was the result of arson. Campbell faced charges on Thursday, while Zinger will return to court on June 10.

The fire, which broke out 5:30 in the morning of April 22nd of last year, destroyed five businesses in the plaza: Tabu, Sugar Mountain, Mr. Sushi, University Vision Centre and Melโ€™s Diner, causing an estimated $4.5 million worth of damages.

The investigation of the fire is still ongoing.
