On March 8, Laurier will be welcoming the newly-appointed assistant vice-president of development, Kathryn Elton, to its staff.

Vice-president of alumni relations and development Rob Donelson, who will be working closely with Elton, explained that Elton โ€œwill be responsible for the Major Gift Fundraising Program that involves donations of $25,000 or more.โ€

While the job title may be new, Donelson states that โ€œit is not entirely a new position but was a result of restructuring to accommodate our current needs.โ€

Donelson explains that The Major Gift Fundraising Program has become increasingly important, as Laurier will soon be embarking on its next major capital campaign.

Elton has experience with initiatives similar to the major gift fundraising program, having worked in the field of fundraising marketing and communications.

After being employed by the University of Guelph, where she is an alumnus, Elton said that although the decision to leave Guelph was not an easy one, she โ€œcould not pass up a great leadership opportunity.โ€

An involved member of her community, Elton said she has โ€œheard nothing but amazing things about Laurier and its strong sense of community, and I cannot wait to become a part of it.โ€
