Graffiti:

Location:  Lot 32

Reported:  Monday October 08, 2012 @ 2:25pm 

While on patrol a Special Constable found graffiti had been written by person(s) unknown on the greenhouse and the shed attached to it in lot 31. The graffiti appeared to have been written in black marker and consisted of the words “VEER” and ‘VEER THE BEATEN PATH”. Some of the graffiti was illegible. There are no suspects.

 

Alarm:

Location: 202 Regina

Reported: Monday October 08, 2012 @ 8:57pm 

A staff member reported setting off an alarm accidently at 202 Regina. The alarm was just a local “door ajar” alarm and was reset by the officer attending.

 

Break and Enter:

Location: Northdale Campus

Reported: Tuesday October 09, 2012 @ 1:22am

Person(s) unknown entered through a window on the north-west side of the Northdale Campus (66 Hickory St) setting of a motion sensor in NC 116. Officers responded moments after the alarm sounded but no one was in the area. A check of the system panel showed the suspect(s) had exited out the north rear door (exit 4). It appears nothing was taken. There are several laptops in the room and all are accounted for. Waterloo Regional Police IDENT attended. No evidence was obtained.

Location: 232 King St 2nd floor

Reported: Tuesday October 09, 2012 @ 1:55pm

An alarm was received on the Simplex panel in Dispatch for 232 King St. N. 2nd floor. The Waterloo Fire Department attended. No smoke or fire was present. A smell of smoke was detected in room 220. It was later established that the alarm was caused by a malfunctioning air duct sensor.

A group of Laurier student’s three males and one female had a verbal altercation when exiting the Wilf’s Bar. When the officers arrived and approached the group on Chancellor Drive the students dispersed. No further action was taken.

 

Injured/Sick Person:

Location: Nichols Center

Reported: Wednesday October 10, 2012 @ 7:16pm

SCS officers and EMS responded to a medical call regarding a female that was having a seizure in the Turret Night Club. She was identified as a 20 year old WLU student that had fallen off a chair and gone into convulsions.  She was assessed by EMS and transported to Grand River Hospital for observation.


Theft Under $5000:

Location: Parking Lot #31

Reported: Thursday October 11, 2012 @ 12:04pm

A male Laurier student reported his bicycle missing when he checked the bicycle rack off the parking lot #31 behind Waterloo College Hall. He had locked the front tire of the bike to the rack. Person(s) unknown stole the bike frame and left the wheel locked to the rack. There are no surveillance cameras in the area.

A female Laurier student sprained her ankle while working out in the Athletic Complex. SCS attended and applied a wrap to the ankle. The student was waiting for a friend to escort her to her residence off campus. No further action was required by S.C.S.

 

Alarm:

Reported: Thursday October 11, 2012 @ 4:30pm

Dispatch received a fire alarm notification on the Simplex Panel for a residence. Waterloo Fire Department was called to attend. A check of the area established that a smoke detector in the hall across from a room was activated by smoke emitting from a frying pan in the kitchen. The Fire Captain gave the all clear after the alarm was reset.

Reported:  Thursday, October 11, 2012 @ 7:58 pm

SCS officers and members from the Waterloo Fire Dept. attended to the Concourse in response to an activated fire alarm.  It was determined that a staff member from Starbuck’s had inadvertently started a small fire in a convection oven by cooking some food.  There was no damage and the alarm was reset.

 SCS officers and members from the Waterloo Fire Dept. attended to the Concourse in response to an activated fire alarm.  It was determined that a defective smoke detector was the source of the alarm.  It was replaced by the on-call engineer.  No damage was reported.

 

Drugs:

SCS attended to the student residence in response to a complaint of suspected drug usage.  A small quantity of marihuana was seized for destruction in one of the apartments as well as some home baked brownies containing marihuana.  No charges were proceeded with but the narcotics violation will be dealt with by Residence Life involving five W.L.U. students.

An 18 year old male student was apprehended by SCS at the female student residence for property damage.  He had been spotted by residents on the 3rd floor ripping down signs and posters in the hallway and doorways.  Alcohol was a contributing factor for his disrespectful behaviour.  He was taken to his residence and left in the care of his Don.  Residence Life will be dealing with the matter.

 

Liquor Offence:

An 18 year old male W.L.U. student was issued a Provincial Offence Notice by SCS for the offence of ‘Having liquor in an open container’ pursuant to the Liquor Licence Act.  He had been apprehended by SCS inside a residence destroying property.  He was taken back to his residence and left in the care of his Don.

SCS officers administered first aid to a 23 year old male student to some abrasions that he had sustained to both knees.  He had slipped and fallen on his way to the university in the morning.  A dressing was applied to the injuries and no further medical assistance was required.

Reported:  Saturday, October 13, 2012 @ 1:11 am

SCS officers and members from the Waterloo Fire Dept. attended to the student residence on the 5th floor in response to an activated fire alarm.  It was determined that person(s) unknown had used a fire extinguisher on the floor and the chemicals had set off the fire alarm.  A fire extinguisher hose had also been unraveled from the fire cabinet.  There was no fire.  Physical Resources was notified for the cleanup.

SCS officers issued a Trespass Notice to an 18 year old Brampton male barring him from entering onto any W.L.U. controlled properties.  He had been involved in a verbal dispute with his girlfriend, a W.L.U. student.  Earlier in the evening the two of them had dealings with W.R.P.S. at an off campus location.  Alcohol was a factor in both incidents.  He was eventually picked up by his parents and driven home.

SCS is investigating a report of a broken mirror in the men’s washroom on the 1st floor.  There are no suspects.  The on call Physical Resources engineer attended for cleanup.  There is no CCTV camera coverage in this area.

 

Intoxicated Person:

Reported:  Friday, October 12, 2012 @ 11:40 pm

One of the Residence Life staff members located an intoxicated 18 year old female student in the lounge on the 1st floor of the student residence.  SCS and EMS attended.  She refused any medical attention and was taken back to her residence by the Residence Life staff member and left in the care of her Don.  The matter will be dealt with by Residence Life.

SCS is investigating a report of damage that occurred on the 1st floor of the student residence.  Person(s) unknown broke the glass in the large bulletin board.  There is no CCTV camera coverage in this area.  The on call engineer attended for cleanup.

 

Alarm:

Location:  Northdale Campus

Reported:  1:00am  Sun Oct 14/12

Special constables responded to an alarm at the Northdale Campus. All doors and windows were secure and all appeared in order after an interior check of the building was conducted. The cause of the alarm is unknown.

 

 Drugs:

Special constables responded to a drug complaint at a residence. A small amount of marijuana and some drug paraphernalia was seized.

 

Disturbance:

Reported:  2:25am  Sun Oct 14/12

Special constables responded a reported disturbance at a residence. Three non WLU males were involved in a verbal altercation. Two of the males were evicted and told not to return. One of the males returned a short time later and as a result was arrested and charged under the Trespass to Property Act

Person(s) unknown broke a window in a door in the Nichols Centre. No suspects.

 

University Regulation Violation:

Location:  Residence

Reported:  3:40am  Sun Oct 14/12

A female resident was dealt with at the request of residence staff after she allowed a male guest to wander the halls unaccompanied as well as having two unauthorized male guests in her room. Residence staff will be dealing with the student.

 

Injured/Sick Person:

Reported:  11:23pm  Fri Oct 13/12

Special constables and EMS attended a Residence after receiving a report that a male had fallen and struck his head. The student had “chugged” a beer and began to feel ill. He went to the washroom and could not recall anything else. His room mate advised that when he came out of the bathroom the student either slipped or passed out. EMS treated him for a minor cut to the back of his head and determined that stitches were not necessary. He refused any further medical attention and signed a waiver to that effect. Residence staff monitored him for the rest of the night.

A special constable responded to an alarm at a room at 202 Regina. On arrival all the doors and windows to the area of the alarm were secure and all appeared to be in order. The cause of the alarm is unknown. Alarm was reset.

 

Injured/Sick Person:

A special constable attended a residence in response to a report of a female resident with an injured ankle. On arrival it was learned that she injured it the previous evening when she apparently sprained the ankle. She subsequently went to hospital by taxi to have the ankle looked at.

Impaired Driver:

Location:  Residence

Reported:  11:18am  Sun Oct 14/12

Special constables observed a vehicle on the lawn at 188 King St Residence with a male person in the driver’s seat who was believed to be impaired. Officers confiscated the keys to the vehicle after calling WRPS who subsequently charged the driver who was a non WLU male with impaired driving
