Three Hawks named All-Canadians

As part of the Vanier Cup festivities, the 2009 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Canadian teams were announced, and Laurier’s Dillon Heap, Courtney Stephen and Giancarlo Rapanaro were among those recognized.

Heap was named a first-team All-Canadian as a kick-returner after a season in which he led the entire nation in total yards with 2041. The third-year receiver set a CIS single-season record with 912 punt return yards, as well as a Laurier single-season record with 493 kick return yards.

Stephen and Rapanaro, meanwhile were both named to the second-team. Stephen, a second-year safety, led the team in tackles with 44.5, adding two interceptions and two sacks. Fourth-year linebacker Rapanaro was not only the Hawks’ leader in sacks with 4.5, but was also tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and ranked third in tackles with 37.5.
