Mustangs prove too much for Hawks

In a battle of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) west division’s top two teams, the first place Western Mustangs showed why they’re atop the standings, topping the Golden Hawks women’s basketball team 70-62 on Saturday afternoon.

Taking control of the game right from the opening tipoff the Mustangs never trailed in this contest, leaving the Hawks scrambling to comeback. This led to some erratic play from Laurier on offence, as evidenced by the 26 turnovers the Hawks committed.

Western’s Jacklyn Selfe had a game-high 20 points, while fifth-year veteran Renata Adamczyk led the Hawks with 15.

The two rivals won’t have to wait long for a re-match as they are set to meet on Wednesday night in London. With the Windsor Lancers’ win over Brock on Saturday, the Hawks now fall to third in the OUA west, two points behind Windsor and four behind Western.
