Theft Under $5000:

Location: The Concourse

SCS is investigating the theft of a portable kiosk (Display stand) that was taken in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 13th . This is a display used on a regular basis by a Bank of Montreal sales representative soliciting business in this area on a regular basis.
The CCTV cameras were reviewed and a suspect has been identified.

Suspect Description:

Male, white, 5’ 8”, 170 lbs., early twenties, brown short hair, clean shaven.
Wearing a dark blue baseball hat on backwards, light green winter coat, light green/bluish T-shirt, dark coloured pants and light brown shoes similar to a high cut work boot.

A 21 year old female student suffered a fainting spell in the classroom in the middle of a presentation. She was not injured in the fall and regained consciousness. She was taken to Health Services by a SCS member.

SCS officers received a complaint of drug use in Residence and were informed that Residence Life Staff was currently on scene with three individuals. Two male students admitted to smoking marijuana in their room this evening and on many previous occasions. A large amount of drug paraphernalia was seized for destruction but no actual drugs. The female non student was not involved in the drug use. Residence Life will be dealing with the matter and sanctions imposed such as possible evictions of both parties.

SCS received a call about an injured person on the walkway leading into the D.A.W.B. The person was identified as a 57 old year male, faculty member. It was learned that he had injured himself the night before while playing a hockey game and had sustained a hip injury. He felt weak, was in pain and thought he was going to pass out. He was driven to Grand River Hospital by a third party.

SCS officers attended to the underground parking garage at a Residence in response to a complaint of suspected drug usage. One of the Resident Life Staff members had come across three males smoking marihuana in this area. Two of the males were identified as 18 year old W.L.U. students and the third party as an 18 year old visiting guest. No marihuana was seized. The two 1st year students will be dealt with by Residence Life for the infraction.

On Monday, March 14, 2011 the Library staff dealt with a female student (University of Guelph) who was attempting to leave the premises with an unauthorized book. Upon exiting the premises the electronic turnstiles had been activated. A Library book was located in her knapsack. This matter has been forwarded to the Director, University of Guelph Police for them to deal with.

A SCS officer attended to one of the classrooms to investigate a projector burglary alarm. Upon his arrival there was a class in session and it’s believed that the console had been inadvertently set off by someone bumping against it.

A WLU student spoke to a special constable asking advice regarding some problems he was having with his roommates. The student lives off campus. Advice was given to the student and he was advised that because he lived off campus if the problems escalated to contact Regional police.

SCS officers attended to the parking lot at the rear of the student residence in relation to a suspicious vehicle parked illegally in the area. The complaint was received by Residence Life staff. This is a continuous problem with the same vehicle. The vehicle and driver were located and reprimanded.

A 19 year old male student called the SCS Dispatch Centre complaining of having been jumped by three males who stole a bag containing two bottles of alcohol. SCS officers attended and learned that the male had been walking down the roadway on the north side of Willison Hall when he was accosted by three males who demanded he turn over his cell phone, headphones and backpack. The victim refused and he was then pushed around and surrounded by the trio (all appeared to have been drinking). The victim then started to raise his voice and the suspects then grabbed a black cloth bag he was carrying containing two bottles of alcohol and ran off in the direction of Alumni Field. This was considered a major crime so the investigation was turned over to W.R.P.S. which will be investigated by The Major Crimes Unit. The victim was not injured during this encounter. CCTV camera footage will be reviewed for any suspect activity.

A SCS officer dealt with several males throwing snowballs at a residence window in an attempt to get someone’s attention in order to let them into the building. They were gone on SCS arrival however several suspects were located nearby that were yelling and they were sent on their way.

A WLU student reported that his wallet had been stolen from his unlocked locker in the mens’ changeroom at the Athletic Complex. A short time later he called to report he found his wallet at home. Theft is unfounded.

A residence don reported a substantial amount of cash missing. He apparently placed the cash in an unlocked cupboard in his room on Feb 1 and first noticed it missing on March 4. The theft was not reported to Special Constable Service until March 17 because the don stated that he wasn’t aware that he needed to report it to Special Constable Service. The money apparently belonged to the “community fund”. There are no suspects at the present time.

Special constables attended at the Bricker Academic Building in response to what was originally reported as someone having a stroke. ERT and EMS were also dispatched. It turned out that the person involved was having a seizure and not a stroke. The individual was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Special constables attended a unit at a residence regarding a large party in progress. One male was observed urinating out the patio door exposing his penis for anyone to see. Some males were also shouting abuse at special constables. The party was broken up and a large amount of open alcohol and several cases of beer were in the unit. Occupants of the unit were under legal drinking age. Residence Life staff will be dealing with the individuals involved.

A special constable assisted Regional Police when they apprehended a non WLU male who had spray painted graffiti on the retaining wall on the west side of the Seminary. The male was charged by Regional Police and was held overnight pending a “Show Cause Hearing” the next day.

Special constables and Waterloo Fire Department attended at a residence in response to a fire alarm. The alarm was activated by a smoke detector on the 1st floor. No sign of smoke or fire was found. Waterloo Fire Department gave the all clear and residents were allowed to re-enter the building. The alarm was reset.

Custodial staff reported observing 2 males pushing a large blue recycle bin from the Nichols centre down Bricker Ave towards King St. No suspect description could be provided. Special constables checked the area with negative results.

Two non WLU males who had joined the “Five Days for the Homeless” event in the Nichols Centre Quad were making some of the participants feel uncomfortable by their actions were spoken to. When asked to leave one of the males became argumentative, cursing at special constables. . They were subsequently evicted from campus.

Person(s) unknown discharged a fire extinguisher in a washroom on the 2nd floor of the Peters Building. Also, some graffiti was drawn on a white board and a data projector in one of the classrooms in the same area. The graffiti was rubbed off. No suspects.

Special constables and ERT attended at a residence in response to a report that a mirror (approx 4’ X 2’) in a washroom had fallen and struck a female resident on the head. The student was attended to by ERT and declined any further medical attention. She received no cuts to her head but felt sore. Investigation revealed that the clips that are intended to hold the mirror in place were not damaged and it is unknown if the mirror was actually attached to the wall. Occupational Health and Safety were notified of the incident.

Special Constable Service overheard three males discussing taking the flags in the Dining Hall. It was observed that two males pulled on three flags, resulting in the flags coming off and the poles being bent. CCTV video footage was obtained, and at the present time, one male has been identified as a Wilfrid Laurier student.

Female student insulin dependant diabetic consumed a large amount of alcohol and subsequently began vomiting. EMS attended and treated on scene. Paramedics gave instructions to a female resident student who agreed to care for her friend. Sugar levels remained in the normal range; therefore it was not necessary for the female to be transported to hospital.

Special Constables Services received a call from Residence Life advising that three students were using drugs. Special Constables attended and a small amount of drugs were seized with a homemade bong. Drugs were subsequently taken to North Division for destruction. Residence Life sanctions, and possible eviction of Residence will be imposed by the Residence Life staff in this matter.

While on a foot patrol of the Arts Wing, a Special Constable Officer observed a broken window in room 2C3. The exterior and interior panes were both broken, and a broken beer bottle was scattered on the desk and floor of the room. PP&P were notified to repair the window and clean the broken glass. No suspects at this time.
