Heap breaks CIS record

During Laurier’s 21-14 win over Guelph, Golden Hawks’ slot back Dillon Heap set a new Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) record for punt return yards in a single season.

Heap racked up 202 punt return yards on Saturday, improving his season total to 827, breaking the previous record of 777, set by Richard Karikari of St. FX in 2002.

“I knew I was close coming in, but I didn’t think I was going to get it,” said Heap. “It’s only one season, but it definitely feels great to be on top.”

Heap, a Waterloo native, has emerged as one of the Hawks’ top weapons, not only on returns but also on offence.
