Faculty approves film major

Among the departmental changes approved at the Faculty of Arts Council meeting this afternoon, film studies will be making a monumental leap forward as a program.

The honours program, currently only offered in combination with another degree program or as a minor, has grown from 28 majors in the early 2000s to over 100 students majoring today. Already offering between 20 and 22 courses, the expansion of film studies to offer a single honours degree would require no additional resources. This proposal was met by full approval of the council and should be taken into effect in Sept. 2012.

Additionally, environmental studies was approved to be offered as a minor and the addition of a research specialization option was approved for the department of communication studies.

Due to consistently low enrolment levels, the Mediterranean studies program was decided to be closed. All changes will take effect next fall.
