Basketball Hawks down Guelph

On Wednesday night, the Guelph Gryphons paid a visit to the Laurier Athletic Complex to take on both of the Golden Hawks’ basketball teams. The night would turn out to be a successful one for both squads in purple and gold, with the men coming out on top 87-75 and the women triumphing 64-46.

Hawks’ fourth-year Kale Harrison continued his impressive season, putting up 38 points to lead all scorers while fellow veteran Matt Buckley controlled the boards, racking up 11 rebounds. The win improves the Hawks’ record to 9-4, putting them in third place in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) west division.

In the women’s game, rookie point guard Felicia Mazzerolle continued to show poise leading the purple and gold’s attack, playing 30 minutes racking up six steals and seven points. Veteran Hawk Renata Adamczyk was the game’s leading scorer as the two-time OUA all-star put up 17.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be at home this weekend for games against Western Mustangs. For the women, this could prove to be a crucial match-up as the 10-3 Hawks now sit alone in second place in the OUA west standings, two points behind the first-place Mustangs.
