Student-led workouts bring Laurier students together

Starting University can be difficult and intimidating when it comes to meeting new people. Laurier has created an opportunity for new and returning Laurier students to stay active, meet people outside of your usual group, and break your routine of classes.

Laurier’s Student-Led Group Exercise program offers low-intensity to high-intensity classes week by week to help build a fitness community.

With different classes scheduled throughout the week, this program offers lots of variety, including cycling classes, Pilates, yoga, hip hop lessons, jazz funk, and more. Students can find the exercise style that fits them best. Whether someone is new to fitness classes or has already done their fair share, there are options for everyone.

Going to the gym is always a good option, but this exercise program lets you connect with new people, learn from an in-class instructor, and try new things without needing to be an expert beforehand.

As a first-year student myself, it is comforting to know that there are programs like the Student-led workout group that give me a place to meet new people while doing something I love. Knowing there are programs in place to help students bond and come together makes moving into university a lot less intimidating.

This program isn’t just for first-years; it gives upper-year students a chance to meet new people outside their inner circle. It can be a class you return to throughout your university experience.

Laurier students can register for a free Group Ex pass. Classes are held in different spaces, including Studio 1, Studio 4, the MPR, and The Cycle Studio, with instructors who bring energy, enthusiasm, and fun to every class.

University is more than academics. For students new to Laurier, looking to stay active, try something new, or make new friends through exercise, this Student-Led Workout Group is another way to connect with the Laurier Community.

Students can register for classes in the Athletic centre’s website.
