Open Cord: Our entrance music

Q: If you were a professional athlete (wrestler, ball player, etc.), what would your โ€œwalk-inโ€ theme music be??

Marissa Evans, Lead Reporter

If I were a professional athlete my โ€œwalk-inโ€ theme music would have to be DJ Khaledโ€™s โ€œAll I do is winโ€. I can totally picture it. Me — all 5ft 1ยพโ€ of me — strolling onto the basketball court with โ€œAll I do is winโ€ playing in the background. Everyone on the other team would let their guard down because it would be so ironic and dumb, giving me the opportunity to school them with my mad b-ball skills (Iโ€™m also really stressing the โ€˜ifโ€™ at the beginning of my answerโ€ฆ because I actually suck at basketball and in real life I wouldnโ€™t be able to โ€˜schoolโ€™ anyone with โ€˜mad b-ball skillsโ€™).

Nick Lachance, Photography Manager

Does McDonald’s have theme music? Iโ€™d probably be a sumo wrestler, so Iโ€™d need my โ€œgetting up to pushing weightโ€ theme music to dazzle the crowd. I think it would also throw my opponent off base, they start thinking about yummy nuggets ‘n shit, because they would be fat too, and it would give me an edge. Then Iโ€™d crush em with my mad skills, and then crush some chicks and some burgers. Maybe both at the same time… yeah…

Carly Basch, Life Editor

Alright so I decided that my one and a half MVPs that I got this summer have convinced me that I am in the right direction to becoming a pro baseball player. Whenever I went up to bat, I would quickly go up to the plate, wiggle into position, smile at the crowd just for some reassurance and then hit ball so hard that it got me to… first base! For my entrance music, Iโ€™m going to have to go with โ€œAnte Upโ€ by M.O.P. I figure walking up to some hardcore rap will intimidate the other team before I whack that ball to opposite field.

Ali Connerty, Arts Editor

My walk-up music would have to be โ€œGangnam Styleโ€ just so that I could ride an imaginary horse to the most important point of my โ€˜careerโ€™ as a professional athlete. Who wants to walk when you can dance?! That wonโ€™t ever happen though, having an athletic career, so you should look out for my spontaneous outbreak of imaginary horse riding and disco dancing in the Concourse in the near future.

Justin Fauteux, Editor-in-Chief

For the sake of sheer hilarity: this. But seriously, Iโ€™ve always said if I were a baseball player, my walk-up music would be โ€œAround The Worldโ€ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Just listen to that distorted bass, how could you not get pumped up?

Jeremy Enns, Lead Videographer

BOOM. Every good theme songs starts with a good bass drop. Wake up and walk with some โ€œOOMFHโ€ behind those footsteps! “On Wings of Integrity Pt. 2″ by MyChildren MyBride keeps things heavy and posi. Fly high, stay true.

Alanna Fairey, Lead Reporter

Seeing as how I was kicked off my baseball team when I was younger for doing diddly-doodly as an athlete, Iโ€™m going to pretend that this is an alternate universe where I am a respected athlete who will put Michael Phelps to shame. And my entrance music would have to be โ€œLive While Weโ€™re Youngโ€ by One Direction. Iโ€™m young and Iโ€™m living it up. And One Direction has five hot guys, seemingly singing about me as I impress the world when I walk in. Itโ€™s a no-brainer.

Wade Thompson, Visual Director

Iโ€™ve considered a couple of different answers for this one. My immediate response was to have the โ€œHamsterdanceโ€ be my choice. Think about how hilarious that one would be. โ€œAnd now batting, First Baseman, Wade Thompsonโ€ and then just โ€œDa ba dee da dee da do do.โ€ Hilarious. But I think my actual answer would be Warren Zevonโ€™s โ€œWerewolves of Londonโ€. It might have been the perfect use of it in The Color of Money but it just works as a badass song to walk anywhere to.

Stephanie Truong, Graphics Editor

And weighing in at… (ha, like Iโ€™d tell you) pounds, the heavyweight champion, STEPHANIE TRUONG! Just to be super epic, I would probably want this to play, and Iโ€™d probably adopt some of Gobโ€™s dance moves. Seems like a pretty amazing option. My other option would be “What is Love” by Haddaway. I would have some smoke, a colourful backdrop, and as soon as the beat starts I would turn around in a shimmery blue wig and strut down the walkway. I would also stop at various moments to flex a bicep or do a pelvic thrust. How amazing are these songs? Why would you not want to emerge to these songs?

Lindsay Purchase, Local and National Editor

The song Iโ€™d want to walk out to would have to be You Make My Dreams by Hall and Oates. It just seems like one of those songs you can kind of strut to. And letโ€™s be honest, this made it so much better. Although, I think Iโ€™d rather be Summer in that particular scenario …

Katelyn Cullum, Lead Reporter

As much as Iโ€™d like to believe that I could be an athlete and require a โ€œwalk inโ€ song, there is pretty much a one per cent chance of that happening. But itโ€™s always fun to dream right? If I were an athlete, it would be in some unpopular sport like badminton or ping pong, but I would definitely be the best and it would allow me to have a theme song. And that song would be โ€œFight for Your Rightโ€ by the Beastie Boys. Obviously its a great song, but the chorus just gets me every time and I think it would give me bonus points from fans in my ultracool sport. Remember, you gotta fight for your right to parrrrrrrrrty.

Devon Butler, Opinion Editor

I am no athlete. Not even in an imaginary world would I ever need โ€˜walk in music.โ€™ Instead, Iโ€™ve always fantasized about simply having music to strut to when I walk into rooms full of people and could use a serious confidence boost. Nothing helps me to feel like Sandra Bullock post-makeover in Miss Congeniality like Tom Jonesโ€™ “Sheโ€™s a Lady.” Because Iโ€™m a classy gal and shit like that.
