Hawks soar over Mustangs

On Saturday, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women’s hockey team continued their perfect season with a win over the Western Mustangs. The Hawks overcame a sloppy first period which saw them surrender a goal just over a minute into the game and not register a shot in the first seven minutes to win 2-1.

Laurier’s Katherine Shirriff tied the game for the Hawks mid-way through the second period, then with just two seconds left in the period, a Western defender knocked a shot from Hawks’ forward Devon Skeats into the Mustangs’ net and that was all they needed.

With the win the Hawks now sit at 20-0, and have a firm hold on first in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) standings as well as second in the national rankings.
