Hawks fall to Mustangs

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Men’s hockey team dominated the first and third periods against Western on Thursday – out-shooting them 10-5 and 18-5 respectively in those frames – but were defeated for the second time in a row against the Mustangs, by a score of 5-4.
Hawks’ goaltender Jeff MacDougald had a game to forget as he was pulled after the first period after giving up three soft goals on only five shots. He was replaced by freshman Ryan Daniels to begin the second who was solid, making 24 saves to keep Laurier in the game.

Second year forward Ryan Bellows was a standout for the purple and gold, emerging as the game’s top scorer with three points. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-native Mike Sharp led the Mustang attack with two goals on the evening, while Laurier defender Ryan Bernardi, Western forwards Patrick Ouelette, and Aaron Snow, and Mustang defenseman Ryan Martinelli each had two point outings.
With the loss the Hawks drop to fourth in the OUA Western Conference, sporting a record of 9-4-1.

Their next home game is next Thursday as they host the York Lions.
