Jeff Henry takes Ward 6

Candidate Jeff Henry has been declared the winner in Ward 6 with 1,061 votes.

Upon being named ward councillor Henry commented, “It sounds pretty good. It’s a validation of all the hard work we’ve put in.”

Henry told The Cord that the factor he believes contributed to his win is that the city of Waterloo was waiting for a change.

“People were waiting to hear complete ideas and complete sentences…. We worked pretty hard and knocked on thousands of doors and talked to thousands of people,” said Henry.

Henry named student housing in the Northdale neighbourhood as the most prominent issue he will address, something that has been a much-debated topic in Ward 6.

“One of the most important goals that we have is to do right by student housing in this community,” he said. “For far too long we’ve treated the universities and the students as the enemy and what we need to do is start treating them as partners.”

In the end, Henry was thankful to everyone in Waterloo for their time and support.

“Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s been a brutal campaign but it’s been worth it because we were doing it for the betterment of Waterloo.”

Following in second was Ed Korschewitz with 826 votes, third was Mike Connolly at 802 and in fourth was Anne Crowe with 787.
