City flags raised at half-mast

The city of Waterloo facilities will be flying their flags at half-mast on Friday, August 26 through August 29, in memory of the leader of the official Opposition, Jack Layton, who passed away Monday morning.

Mayor Brenda Halloran said in a press release from the city that the decision was made to pay tribute to a man who served Canada with what she credited as passion, determination and leadership. Regardless of which party people support, it seems that many wish to commemorate the man who brought a more compassionate approach to politics.

A state funeral will be held this Saturday in Toronto.
