Knife-point robbery in Laurier area

Early this morning, four people who were walking home from Phil’s nightclub in Waterloo were robbed by a group of people armed with a rock and a knife.

“At around 1:00 a.m., police responded to the area of Regina Street and Lodge Street in Waterloo, where three men and a woman were walking from a bar when they they were approached by eight people and a altercation took place,”said Alana Russell, media spokesperson and corporate communications for Waterloo Regional Police Services.

“During that altercation, one of the individuals sustained a minor injury to the face and one other individual was robbed at knife-point of jewelry and his cell phone.”

Members of the community are urged to come forward if they have any information about the altercation, or if they saw the vehicle described in the area at that time.

“It is a maroon coloured compact SUV. Some of the individuals took off in a vehicle and others fled on foot,” said Russell.

To people living and working in the area, Russell emphasized that this is generally a safe area and that it is impossible to foresee an event like this. It is important, however, to always be aware of your surroundings when out late at night. She said the four individuals did the right thing by contacting police quickly after the altercation.

“At this point, it’s an active investigation,” Russell said. “We are appealing to members of the public who may have more information or who may have seen something at that time, to contact us.”
