After six years coaching the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk men’s and women’s soccer teams, assistant coach Niki Budalic was named as the assistant general manager for the Orlando City Soccer Club, effective January 25.

Budalic worked alongside both Barry MacLean and Mario Halapir, head coaches of the women’s and men’s soccer teams respectively, both as an athlete in 2001 and as an assistant coach. Budalic also served as the director of operations for K-W United FC, a Premier Development League club in Waterloo that won the 2015 PDL championship last summer. Budalic also played with the Montreal Impact and the Toronto Lynx as well as clubs in Norway and Sweden as an athlete.

Budalic’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport career consisted of two Ontario University Athletics championships in 2011 and 2013 with the women’s soccer club and a CIS championship with the Hawks in 2001. Budalic was also nominated as a 2001 and 2002 OUA first-team all-star.

More to come.
